What I learned from tracking my energy (not my time)
Hello there,
6:30 AM: High energy - Time for deep work!
10:30 AM: Brain feels foggy - Why am I trying to write?
2:00 PM: Creative surge - But I'm in meetings
8:00 PM: Surprisingly alert - Netflix feels wrong
These are actual notes from my energy-tracking experiment last month. Not your typical productivity log, I know.
See, I used to be obsessed with time management. Had all the right apps. Followed all the systems. My calendar was a thing of beauty.
But something wasn't clicking….
Then I started wondering - “What if we're all tracking the wrong metric?”
The Accidental Experiment
It started by accident. During a particularly scattered week, I began jotting down when I felt energized versus drained - just simple notes, nothing fancy.
The patterns that emerged surprised me:
My "optimal" morning schedule was fighting my natural energy dips
My best creative hours were being wasted in meetings
My afternoon slump wasn't about time - it was about energy type
Some tasks weren't time-intensive but were massive energy drains
The Numbers Don't Lie
After a month of tracking, here's what the data showed:
Peak Creative Energy: 9:30-11:30 AM & 4:30-6:30 PM What I Was Doing: Team meetings, admin work What I Should've Been Doing: Writing, strategy, creative work
High Focus Periods: 7:00-9:00 AM & 3:00-4:00 PM What I Was Doing: Email, shallow work What I Should've Been Doing: Deep work, complex problem-solving
Social Energy Peaks: 1:00-3:00 PM What I Was Doing: Deep work attempts What I Should've Been Doing: Meetings, collaborative work
The Interesting Patterns
The Three-Hour Rule Every three hours, my energy type shifted. Not just up and down, but between different kinds of energy:
Creative energy (ideas flow easily)
Analytical energy (problem-solving feels natural)
Social energy (conversations energize rather than drain)
The Recovery Paradox Short breaks during high energy felt wasteful But: They actually extended my peak performance periods
The Environment Effect Same task, different energy costs:
Writing at coffee shop: +2 energy
Writing at desk: neutral
Writing in meeting room: -2 energy
The Myths This Busted
Myth #1: "Power through the afternoon slump"
Reality: It's not about powering through. It's about matching tasks to energy types.
Myth #2: "Stick to a consistent schedule"
Reality: Energy patterns change daily. Consistency might be working against you.
Myth #3: "More hours = more output"
Reality: It's about energy alignment, not time spent.
The Simple Tracking System
Here's what actually worked for me:
Morning Check-in:
Energy level (1-5)
Energy type (Creative/Analytical/Social)
Quick note about sleep/mood
Afternoon Update:
Current energy level
What helped/hindered
Unexpected patterns
Evening Review:
Day's energy graph
Best/worst times
Tomorrow's energy forecast
Small Changes, Big Impact
Moved creative work to actual creative hours Result: Same output in half the time
Scheduled meetings during social energy peaks Result: Less drain, better engagement
Added recovery blocks between energy shifts Result: Sustained performance longer
Your Turn
Start simple:
Track your energy (not time) for 3 days
Note when you feel most alive
Spot your natural energy shifts
Match one task to its ideal energy window
I'd love to hear your observations:
When are you naturally most energized?
What tasks drain you more than they should?
What's one energy pattern you've noticed?
Next time, we'll explore why traditional time management fails us - and what to do instead.
Here's to working smarter,

If you’re over 30 and want to start aging better, you need to add senolytic ingredients to your diet.*
As you get older, it’s common to start accumulating old, worn out cells called senescent cells.
They’re also called “zombie cells” because they linger in our body long after they’re doing anything to support your health.
Almost like old leaves on a plant that need to be pruned off.
As we age, our bodies can waste more and more energy and nutrients on these zombie cells that give us no health benefits in return.
If our bodies waste resources on these zombie cells, we can become less efficient at the normal repair and maintenance of healthy cells and tissues of the body.*
This can lead to age-related symptoms like:
Longer workout recovery times.
General lingering aches and discomfort.*
Decreased physical and mental energy.
And the general “middle-aged” feeling.
Senolytic Ingredients To The Rescue!
Luckily, there’s ingredients that promote our body’s ability to naturally eliminate these senescent or “zombie” cells.*
And they’re called senolytic ingredients.
In fact, the word “senolytic” means “destroy the old” in Latin (as in old senescent cells!).
Qualia Senolytic is clinically tested and combines 9 research-backed senolytic ingredients into a simple supplement you take just two days a month.
Almost like a “monthly cleanse” for aging.
This is the most cutting-edge formula in the world to support better aging.
